Hi! I’m Shawntá (Shawn-tay), founder of By Shawntá Johns, a curly hair and extensions studio based in Long Beach, California, serving clients throughout Los Angeles and Orange County.
Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, I’m a Paul Mitchell–educated licensed cosmetologist in both California and Maryland with a deep passion for helping clients embrace and enhance their natural curls. I specialize in curly hair extensions and working with all curl textures, focusing on creating natural-looking results that blend seamlessly with your own hair.
I’m a Deva-Inspired stylist and have trained in multiple hair extension methods, allowing me to recommend solutions that support healthy hair while achieving the length, fullness, or enhancement my clients are looking for.
I strongly believe in continuing education and staying up to date with the latest techniques, products, and innovations in curly hair care and extensions. This allows me to provide thoughtful recommendations and customized services tailored to each client’s unique hair goals.

When I’m not behind the chair, you’ll probably find me spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, thrifting, or indulging in my guilty pleasure—reality television. I also have a serious love for wine, seafood, and great conversation.
